Urs Fischer: Marguerite de Ponty is now up at the New Museum. The show has lots of dramatic moments, plays of scale and materials, but I was particularly drawn to the fantastically subtle work encompassing the third floor- each square inch of the Museum architecture was photographed and reprinted as a wallpaper that covers the very same walls and ceiling. In the above photo, you can see the photo of the exit sign, offset just below from the actual sign. Same with the vent on the upper right, and note the vertical seams of the wallpaper itself. The whole room was modified this way and the lighting was changed from when the photos were taken, creating a rather beautiful blend of current lighting conditions and evidence of prior exhibitions.
