In the above photo (which I took a few months back, in Queens, NY), the sky is blue, but do you remember why? Why is the truck faded, rusty reds? Or, what causes the vivid colors in sapphires or emeralds? What do diamonds and rainbows have in common?

Most of what you’ll ever see in life is the result of three main events:
1. Light is made (as in a burning candle).
2. Light is lost (as when sunlight filters through stained glass).
3. Light is moved (when the sunset turns yellow and red).
