Mount-Royal Park hosts the tam-tam jams on Sundays from early May to late September (good weather permitting) in the vicinity of the monument to Sir George-Étienne Cartier. The group is loosely centered around a few drum sets, including bongos and tambourines, also some improvised instruments- this past week, there was a significant contribution from an oil barrel in play. People of all ages dance, drink and smoke to the meandering rhythms, which can occasionally achieve a trance-like unity over the crowd.
Below are photos I took on Sunday June 29, 2009. You can see the general scene as well as some of the dedicated characters that tend to lead the crowd with the noisiest instruments. Others wander in and out over the course of the day until the sun goes down.
